Explainer Videos & Motion Graphics

Bring your idea and I will get it to screen!

Whether your video is needed for academic research, education or your business (BIG or small!) there is no better way to engage your audience than with an explainer video!

It doesn’t matter if your video requirements are as short as a few seconds or as long as a few minutes. It could be a simple logo animation, a video intro /outro, social media posts or a full explainer video… I’ve got you!

If you are looking to add some movement to your project or if you need some help explaining complex research ideas or processes, please get in touch.

Why an animation for your Research?

A growing body of peer-reviewed research supports the use of video animation as an effective medium for translating complex scientific and health information into accessible, engaging content. Animated videos have shown particular strength in improving health literacy, patient understanding, and research dissemination.

Several systematic reviews and randomised trials have demonstrated that animations outperform static materials or verbal instructions in enhancing short-term recall and comprehension (Moe-Byrne et al., 2022; Hansen et al., 2024). For instance, Hansen et al. (2024) demonstrated that video animations significantly improved patient knowledge retention across clinical topics. Steele et al. (2022) further confirmed these findings in medical education, where animation improved conceptual understanding among learners.

In public health settings, animations have been shown to increase vaccination uptake, improve decision-making, and reduce anxiety (Naidu et al., 2022; Bolton & Wijnholds, 2023; Bouche et al., 2024). Nassar et al. (2023) found that animated interventions significantly increased patient knowledge about dental procedures compared to text-based formats.

Moreover, animations are emerging as effective tools for research and knowledge translation, especially for underserved populations. Mitchell (2019) emphasised their value in reaching Indigenous communities with tailored health messages. Dowling et al. (2024) highlighted their role in primary care research uptake.

Beyond patients, animations also support healthcare providers. Winter et al. (2023) and Moirangthem et al. (2024) reported improvements in professional training outcomes when animation was integrated into educational strategies.

Across these studies, common benefits included:

  • Improved comprehension of complex topics
  • Increased engagement and attention
  • Better retention of information
  • Enhanced accessibility across literacy levels
  • More equitable dissemination of research findings

The Animation Process

How do we get your video to life? There is a process to this and it’s important.

Whilst every animation is different and therefore the process may vary slightly, the following steps are valid for the majority of the animation projects that I make.

The step of sign-off at each stage may seem a bit repetitive, but it’s a crucial step to keep on track with our deadline and your budget.

Meeting:

We will have a chat to discuss your ideas, objectives and goals, so that I can understand the message and style you wish to convey in the video. We will talk about your target audience, deadline and budget requirements. This meeting is important as it will allow me to design  the style of your script ( if you don’t have one) and video.

Script:

Whether you have already written your own script or require my help or collaboration to finalise it, there will be always an opportunity to make modifications as needed during this step before signing off. This is the first sign-off of the process before the next step.

Voice Over:

You can bring your own voice over recording or I can help with finding the perfect match for your brand and style. I can also do the voice over myself if you wish to. Once the voice- over is done, there is a sign-off at this point.

Frame design:

Each frame will be designed in line with your brand. In this step, we need to incorporate any branding guidelines and color schemes that your company, business or institution may need. I will create a story board containing all the graphics so that you can have an idea about how the animation will look. Once the frames and designs are signed-off, it’s time to animate!

Animation:

Once the script, voice over and frames have been signed-off, it’s time to add the magic of animation! Depending on how long is the video, I may send snippets to receive some feedback and sign-off different sections. For instance, if your explainer video is 3 mins long. I will usually send you each minute of animation for your review and sign-off.

Post-Production:

Once all the animation is finished, sound effects and music are added.

Final sign- off and Launching!
